General principles

This studio is at once a workplace, an inhabited prototype and a permanent laboratory where the research developed by Arkhenspaces is tested, observed and expanded.

It constitutes a continuous experiment around subtle architecture as an instrument of environments.

It also demonstrates the psychological, ecological and economic benefits that a carefully designed, adaptable and attentive architecture can generate for its inhabitants and their uses.

 

An Augmented Workspace

The architecture optimizes the available surface and multiplies the potential uses of the space, particularly through volume.

It encourages movement and variations in posture. Working becomes a dynamic experience in which the body actively participates in the production of ideas.

The space is never fixed: it accommodates different ways of working, meeting, observing, experimenting and simply inhabiting.

 

A Laboratory of Environments

The studio pursues ongoing research into atmospheres, light, optical phenomena, materials, rhythms, living systems, comfort, spatial transformability and the relationships between individuals and their environment.

These explorations involve reflection, projection, diffraction (the appearance of rainbows), ventilation, temperature, acoustics, indoor vegetation, appropriation, chance and synergies of use.

The objective is to observe how architecture can reveal, compose and transform everyday environments.

 

Architecture in Relief

The workspace develops vertically through the Relief Furniture – EnVol concept.

These devices expand possibilities of use, multiply points of view and encourage appropriation of space.

The studio interacts with its environment to reveal new environments and continuously transform perceptions and uses of the place.

 

A Research Demonstrator

This ar(t)chitecture revisits, presents and extends some of the experiments originally developed within the Living Landscape of Saint-Quentin.

The studio functions as a full-scale demonstrator where architecture, furniture, light, digital technologies, uses and hybrid environments intersect.

Here, Arkhenspaces’ research takes shape, evolves and is continuously tested through everyday use.
